You have the idea – just not the money to get started. Here’s what to do.
They say money makes money – but there are some ways you can get around this when you’re looking to start a business with little or no money.
Here are four things to consider:
1. Save, save, save: Don’t have enough money to start your business? Be patient! Putting away a little money every month or week is the best way to save enough money to start your business – that way you don’t owe anyone. A percentage of the money you make can be invested back into the business to help it grow.
2. Look at the opportunities around you: When you look carefully there are often many opportunities to make a little extra money right in front of you. You could save this extra money, let it build up and then use it to launch your business. You could start by letting your neighbors and those in your community know that you’re looking for work, that way, you’ll be the first to know.
3. Make use of your skills: Have you thought about a skills-swap? Rather than borrowing money or buying your own equipment, take a look at the people around you. Perhaps you could swap something of yours for their time, skills or equipment. For example, you need to use a sewing machine to make products to sell? Borrow your neighbor’s machine and in return, offer them your time to help them out when they need it. Identify the skills and tools you need to start your business and turn to the people around you. You’ll be amazed how far you can get without actually needing cash. Don’t be afraid to ask – the worst they can say is no, and more often than not, they’ll be happy to help!
4. Use word of mouth for marketing: Your friends and family are a great, free way to spread the word about your business. Ask your friends to tell their friends and communities about your products or service or perhaps they could leave a review of your business on social media. Personal recommendations and positive reviews of your business will boost your credibility and you’ll be amazed how quickly word spreads when you use the network around you!
Remember, you don’t necessarily need lots of cash to start a business. Be creative, look around for opportunities and use the skills and assets of those around you to start your business. Ask your family, friends and those in your community to spread the word about your business and you’ll be amazed how far you can get without needing cash!
